Voodoo Music + Arts Experience

Casting a spell on the crowd at a top-tier music festival

It was time to hit the Reset button.  And that’s exactly what Austin-based concert promoter C3 Presents did in 2016 when they took over management and operations of the event, held annually in New Orleans City Park and commonly known as “Voodoo Fest.”

Heading into its 18th year, the three-day Halloween weekend event was already a popular multi-stage, multi-genre music festival.  But the experience for attendees had slowly declined.  Having collaborated with Solomon Group in the past on projects like Lollapalooza and NFL Draft, C3 asked us to help them reinvigorate Voodoo Fest.

One of our main challenges was to dramatically improve the festival’s most popular destination.  The Le Plur Stage features a variety of EDM artists and attracts thousands of music fans looking for energetic performances enhanced by powerful lighting and video design.  Solomon Group amplified the experience at Le Plur tremendously by adding more lighting and video technology to the stage.

C3 also leaned on Solomon Group for help with creating a more themed overall festival experience.  In order to make an immediate impact on guests as they entered the gate, our team fabricated, finished and installed a striking, faux wrought iron entrance structure that featured integrated scenic lighting, the Voodoo logo, as well as several symbols and insignias that are icons of the festival.  We also fabricated 15-foot tall Voodoo “candles” that were placed around the park and provided unique photo opportunities for attendees.

Voodoo Fest 2016 attracted over 150,000 people to the city of New Orleans, marking a 50% increase from the 2014 event (2015 was plagued by bad weather and a canceled show day).  New Orleans is a city famous for its hauntings and Voodoo history.  Solomon Group looks forward to working with C3 Presents in the future to make the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience a scary good time.
