Samsung GALAXY Experience

A towering brand scores big with its fans

During NBA All-Star Weekend, it wasn’t just the league’s top players who traveled to New Orleans to suit up and put on a show.  Some of the world’s most popular and influential companies use the event as an opportunity to show off what they’ve got to fans as well.

In 2014, Solomon Group teamed up with PMK|BNC and Event Eleven to create the Samsung GALAXY Experience, a pair of distinct activations for the mobile device giant and official NBA sponsor.

For the NBA All-Star Jam Session, Samsung wanted to create a unique fan environment at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.  This arm of the Samsung GALAXY Experience was a 50’x100’ booth offering multiple stations where visitors could interact with the brand’s latest technology.  Solomon Group’s challenge was to execute the custom fabrication and A/V services needed to not only bring the environment’s design to life, but to also account for attendee flow among the booth’s many interactive stations.

Samsung also hosted an exclusive event for owners of their products at celebrity Chef John Besh’s restaurant, Borgne.  In one day, Solomon Group transformed the entire space into the Samsung GALAXY Owner’s Lounge, where fans could play NBA 2K14, shoot pool, create custom phone covers and more.   It was important to the activation’s designers that the environment reflect the restaurant’s existing design aesthetic which celebrates southern Louisiana.  Solomon Group provided scenery that included reclaimed wood, as well as CNC-routed logos and signage, lighting, custom chalkboards, printing and installation.

For our team, it was an opportunity to work with top interactive agencies to help a towering, global brand score big with fans of their technology during the NBA’s biggest party.
