Helping New Orleans stage its comeback story

Early in 2015, The City of New Orleans began planning its 10th Anniversary Commemoration of Hurricane Katrina.  Thousands of residents and visitors -- including journalists, nonprofit leaders, political figures and other VIPs -- were expected to participate in “Katrina 10,” a weeklong tribute to the city’s strength and resilience.

Dozens of official gatherings were scheduled across New Orleans as part of the commemoration.  But organizers asked Solomon Group for help with their largest and most complex projects.

“NOLA Honors" was a private event held on Friday evening at the historic Saenger Theater.  Hosted by Branford Marsalis and Harry Connick Jr., the show featured musical performances and special presentations that paid tribute to the organizations, individuals, corporations and foreign nations that helped New Orleans rise up after the storm.

On Saturday, August 29th -- the official anniversary of Katrina’s landfall -- the city hosted a free, public event at the Smoothie King Center.  Hosted by Soledad O’Brien, “The Power of Community" featured musical guests, an interfaith prayer service, a speech by former President Bill Clinton and a massive second line to a nearby block party.

Solomon Group provided full design, creative, production, print graphics, custom fabrication, show logistics and management services for both events, as well as the Katrina 10 Media Center at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel.
